Jersey City Free Books -- stop by to pick up a book or donate yours for others to use and enjoy.

Donate at the Jersey City Free Books GoFundMe Page.

Jersey City Free Books needs your help! Support reading in your community by donating quality books at 297 Griffith Street, Jersey City, NJ 07307 during the hours listed at the Main Page of the Web Site.

We particularly need solid recent fiction and non-fiction, including text books less than three years old. Literary classics are always welcome. Children’s titles and books of all types in languages other than English are great, too.

We can’t take damaged books, encyclopedias or text / computer books more than a couple of years old! Current students can’t use out-of-date text books. Even if the subject doesn’t change, the book does. Audio or video tapes also can’t be used. We currently can’t accept any more Self-Help, Mysteries, Thrillers, or Romances.

Books can only accepted when the shop is open. PLEASE! Don’t leave anything outside! When you arrive, let us know that you are here. Then, we’ll assist with the unloading,

Contributions of any amount by PayPal are always welcome.

The shop hours are listed at the Main Page of the Web Site.

Jersey City Free Books CAN’T ACCEPT these!

Do you have household items, small appliances or anything else still in the box that you’re never going to use? Please consider donating these items to Jersey City Free Books. We urgently need to raise funds. Anything that we can sell or use as a promotion for crowdfounding will be GREATLY appreciated!

Jersey City Free Books can also use these items:

  • Picnic and card tables
  • Metal or wood shelves similar to the ones now in the shop.
  • Clear plastic drawers from storage organizers
  • Clear plastic storage containers with lids
  • Gigabyte switches
  • Computers, cell phones or tablets less than four years old
(Either working or non-working — Secure removal and erasure of data is performed on all devices.)

Thank you!

Jersey City Free Books ponders the wisdom of Mae West.

Mae West said, “Too much of a good thing can be wonderful!” (Is this where Clairol got the idea that blondes have more fun?) Not to delve too deeply into the inner significance of a dead actress (or advertising campaign), Jersey City Free Books has encountered a similar situation. The happy homemaker gene has fully expressed itself during the current rainy spell. (After all, Martha Stewart was born in Jersey City. If she was raised here she would’ve known enough to keep her yap shut when the FBI rang the bell, but that’s a topic for another discussion.) Day at the beach, mountains, park, etc. cancelled, many have spent the gloomy free time cleaning — and clearing out boxes of unused books to donate.

Jersey City Free Books recently has received THOUSANDS of books. Many, many different works of fiction and non-fiction just can’t wait to make friends with you.

All are encouraged to stop by to pick up a book, especially those without jobs. Many among the long-term unemployed, not able now to afford the expense, are finding it necessary to give up Internet access. Even though not “wired,” through books, they can stay connected to the world of ideas.
